Survivor Season 2: Rodger Bingham

If you are like the millions of other people who caught Survivor fever early on, you will definitely want to listen to this episode of What’s Hot with Molly, Kelly and Caitlin. A Survivor Season 2 favorite, Rodger Bingham was our guest and wow, was he entertaining. And if you aren’t quite sure what I am talking about, the Survivor reality show is now in it’s 20th season – that’s right – 20th. It has had quite an impact on people young and old.
Rodger was perhaps one of the most charming guests we have had on the show. Complete with a southern accent, and a twinkle in his eye, the Kentucky native regaled us with his tales from Survivor, and also caught us up on what he is actively working on now.
Let me break it down for you, while we were all watching the Survivor TV series from the comforts of our living rooms around the world, Rodger was really doing all the he could to survive. Really. In the podcast, you’ll hear of his tales of having to fish for hours on end – every day – just to be able to eat. He jumped off cliffs to win Survivor challenges (and even won some live chickens for one challenge). You can hear it in his voice though as he thinks back on that time – it was a time of happiness, a test of wills, strengths and friendships.
Of course we were interested in his tales of what he ate, how they prepared their food, what he had to go through just to be able to eat each day. A-mazing.
So now what is Mr. Bingham doing now that he is not facing the wild life of the Outback? He is back in Kentucky of course. Having grown up on a farm, he attributes the skills he learned as a kid for his great success on the Survivor realty show. So, it is only natural that he again finds himself at home and helping the great Commonwealth of Kentucky. Serving as Deputy Executive Director for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Rodger spends his days dedicated to the Kentucky Proud Program – and that program has produced some fantastic results.
Kentucky Proud is the official state farm marketing program. Since 2004, Kentucky Proud has grown to more than 1,800 retailers, farmers, restaurants, farmers’ markets and processors, up from just a few dozen. In 2009 alone, Rodger proudly informed us that the program has generated $150 million in retail sales of Kentucky farm products through member retailers. Unbelievable.
