A Fine Way to Spend a Sunday by Kelly Trush

I feel this morning quite like I did the one after prom, college graduation, or even my wedding.  To each one of the events I looked so forward, and for each one I dutifully did all my homework, carefully planned my outfit, and made sure I had the perfect folks with whom to celebrate.  The next days I awoke with the same smile I had had when my head hit the pillow the night before, smitten with the good times. 

While I walked away with neither a diploma nor a husband, yesterday afternoon’s radio show was similarly exciting.  For weeks and weeks, Molly and Caitlin and I have been lathered up about getting to interview the editor-in-chief of Fine Cooking Magazine, Laurie Buckle.  We came to the 55KRC table knowing every nook and cranny of Fine Cooking fun facts, wearing ensembles to dazzle (just the producer of the show, since it was only radio), and a collection of listeners eager to hear.  Of course, we were thrilled to meet the woman responsible for one of our favorite food mags and websites, but we were over the moon! to learn that she is a real person just like us.  Laurie is a wife and a mother and originally a Midwesterner who was raised on meat and potatoes.  She appreciates food, but is not a classically-trained chef.  And, more than anything, Laurie is a user of the products she helps to create.  Suffice to say, the reason there’s a recipe maker for potato salad is that Laurie herself was curious about all the different ways to make Summer’s favorite side.
