Tuna Pizza
yes, tuna pizza - a great pizza dinner
In Italy, tuna on pizza is quite the norm – I know that is not the case here in the States. So, in an effort to help to broaden horizons on the food front, I am going to teach you how to make one of my favorite pizza recipes: a tuna pizza. Have an open mind and you will be delighted (after her trip to Italy this became Kelly’s favorite pizza).
For extra tips, be sure to watch the online cooking class – you can discover firsthand how to make this delicious tuna pizza. Also be sure to check out some of my other pizza recipes, Potato Pizza, Pizza- Zesty Ricotta and Fresh Tomato Pizza just to name a few.
cooking information
- Yield: 1 Pizza
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Cooking Time: 10 minutes
all ingredients
- 1 Dough Uncooked Pizza Dough
- 2 Cans Tuna, drained
- 1/2 Large Red Onion
- 1- 1 1/2 Cups Fresh Snow Peas
- 1/4 Cup Olive Oil
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1/4 Cup Shredded Parmesan Cheese
recipe instruction
1. Bring one pot of salted water to a boil.
2. Prepare a bowl of ice water to shock the peas after they are finished cooking (the ice water will stop the peas from further cooking and becoming over-cooked).
3. Once the water is boiling, throw the peas in for 1-2 minutes, until they are tender but not mushy. (They will float when they are finished).
4. Pull the peas from the water and place in the ice bath. When completely cooled, pull from the bath so they don't get watery.
5. In a saute pan, warm up a few tablespoons of olive oil. Cut your red onion in half, slice it, and throw the pieces into the saute pan. Monitor the heat so you do not fry the onions – you want a low saute. Onions should be very pliable and slightly translucent.
6. Prepare the pizza dough. Smear it with olive oil, until it has a clear coat on it, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
7. Scatter the drained tuna, sauteed onions and peas all over the pizza. Dust the top of the pizza with your shredded Parmesan.
8. Cook pizza in a 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. Crust should be slightly golden brown.
cooking tips
- It is easier to handle dough if you add a bit of flour to your working area. This will keep the dough from sticking to the area.
- I recommend placing the dough on your pizza stone (or baking sheet) and then adding your toppings.
