Shrimp Piccata

Shrimp Piccata

fresh shrimp in a lemon-y butter sauce

With only 4 ingredients – shrimp, butter, capers and lemon – my fresh shrimp piccata is extremely easy to make. This dish takes almost no time at all, but looks just fancy, that it may have taken you all day. Shrimp piccata is a great summer and spring time appetizer and if you are looking for a shrimp appetizer for fall and winter time try Autumn Smoked Shrimp.

cooking information

  • Yield: Appetizers for 4
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 10 minutes

all ingredients

  • 1 lb Fresh Shrimp
  • 2 Lemons
  • 2 Tbsp Capers
  • 2 Tbsp Unsalted Butter

recipe instruction

1. Prepare your shrimp. Make sure they do not have a vein down their backs. (If they do, take a small sharp knife down the back of the shrimp and pick it out with your hands.) Also make sure the shrimp are shelled. (If they aren't, hold the tail end and peel the shell off both sides.)

2. On medium heat, melt your butter in a medium sized sauce pot.

3. Once your butter is melted, throw your shrimp in the pot. The shrimp will only take 3-4 minutes to cook. You want the shrimp to be firm and not mushy.

4. When the shrimp is finished, and while it is still in the sauce pot, add your lemon juice and capers. Stir together to coat, and serve immediately. Enjoy!

cooking tips

  • If you love this as an appetizer, throw in your favorite cooked pasta and make it a meal for two!
  • Capers = Pickled buds of trees. These add the saltiness to the recipe.
