Dark Chocolate Syrup

We designed this recipe as a gourmet stir-in for a bar FULL of milk, the one you can see pictured here. It was a treat at our National Dairy Council-sponsored Third Thursday, and it’s a treat on any given Tuesday too.

This is best enjoyed shortly after it’s made, but it will store for a couple days in the refrigerator. Stir it into your milk, pour it over ice cream, or offer it as a dip to fresh fruit.

  • Yield: 1 cup
  • Prep Time: 2 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes

  • 8 oz. dark chocolate
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 Tbsp sugar

  1. Break the chocolate into small portions. Combine with the milk and sugar in a small sauce pot and turn to medium-low heat.
  2. Let it slowly warm up and continually whisk until the chocolate is melted and everything is combined.
  3. Turn off the heat and let come to room temperature. Stir into a tall glass of milk.

  • Play with this recipe by using whichever chocolate you have on hand. Add different spices to make it your own, like cayenne pepper or cinnamon. Or, stir some malt powder into the syrup.
