BBQ of the Month

BBQ of the Month

Have you ever experienced something and asked yourself, “Where have you been all my life?”

This was the exact question I asked out loud when I received my box from PigoftheMonth.com.  First, a little background: PigoftheMonth.com was created by the Richard’s Family after having spent years conquering the United States looking for the best BBQ. After potentially tasting all the best offerings the states had to offer they took it back to their kitchen and like any great foodie, they created their favorite flavors themselves. Located in Dayton, Ohio, we were excited to support fellow Buckeyes!

A large box was sitting on my porch last week and I tore it open with my 2 little boys staring wide-eyed at the package wondering what could get me this excited. Of course the answer was pork!

Within the package, we received a slab of ribs, pulled pork, slaw, corn pudding, 2 buns, and a bottle of BBQ sauce. Everything was ice cold and just waiting to be thawed for dinner. The sauce we got was called Key West in a Bottle, (note they also offer a Love Me Tender Memphis BBQ, Colonel Mustard Carolina Mustard BBQ, Miss Scarlet’s Carolina Red BBQ, Get Lei’d Hawaiian BBQ, and Cattle King Brisket and BBQ Sauce). The Key West Sauce was velvety in texture with the perfect amount of sweet and sour with whole cracked peppercorns that gave a final bit of heat at the end of your bite.

I patiently waited for my husband to come home to experience the main course, but I couldn’t want to taste the sauce. I pulled out some fresh rolls, smeared it with cream cheese and then covered it in the BBQ sauce.  For those of you who are familiar, it tasted like a Henry Baine sandwich, without any extra work. Lets just say there were a few rolls consumed before dinner. The instructions were also amazingly simple for making the whole dinner at home. I simply had to add the ribs to the oven for 30 minutes, and then I slowly warmed up the pulled pork on the stove top. I also lovingly toasted the light and fluffy buns, and heated the corn pudding. By the time Andrew (my husband) was home, we were ready for a feast.

The pork was obviously handled ever-so-gently because there were big chunks of meat still in tact. The corn pudding was light and creamy with fresh corn through out. The ribs were the perfect balance of tender, yet with meat that remained on the bone. After my first rib, I decided I needed to try several more, just to make sure each of the ribs was equally as delicious as the last. (Let me tell you they were all as equally tender and good!)

All in all the meal was amazing. As a busy mom, this was a life-saver. To think that every month a couple dinners would be taken care of with a box of goodies is life changing! This is the perfect gift for any pork lover or eager foodie. Pigofthemonth.com offers their delicious meals in 3, 6, 9, and 12 month increments. They also cater – so if you are having a large party or if you need private time with this delicious food, you can order it all online.

If you are looking to make your stomach growl go to Pigofthemonth.com and enjoy the feast for your eyes. And, if you aren’t a big BBQ person, you need to just go to their website to appreciate all of the design. Everything is creative and comical while showcasing a great product. Their stationary comes with BBQ fingerprints on both the envelope and paper. It is all so clever that I found myself licking my thumb to help wipe it away while reading the personalized note. (It’s the mom in me.)

And if anyone has experienced the pimento cheese spread, tell me how it went, that is on my next list of things to devour!
