Ham Broth
flavorful comfort food
Make this broth something that you always have in your refrigerator or freezer. The recipe makes a large pot and may be used as a flavorful ingredient, as a base to a noodle soup, or even as an appetizer at a winter party. Serve it in shot glasses to warm your guests.

all ingredients
- 1 Ham Bone + any scraps of meat
- 3 Onions
- 6 Carrots
- 1 Bunch Celery
- 2 Bay Leaves
- Water
recipe instruction
1. Place the ham bone and any meat into a large sauce pot.
2. Clean the carrots and celery. Remove outer layers of the onion. Roughly chop and place all in the sauce pot.
3. Add 2 bay leaves and enough water to cover. Turn to medium high heat.
4. Let it come to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer and let cook for 2 hours.
5. After it has cooked for a long while (**see tip below) remove the ham bone and strain. (Make sure you catch the liquid in another pot!)
6. Serve and enjoy!
cooking tips
- I let my broth cook between 2-3 hours, but if you don’t have that much time you can dice your vegetables smaller and turn the heat to a high temperature and let cook for 30 minutes to 1 hour. But the longer you cook the broth, the more flavor you will get out of it!
- Homemade broth is simply the best. Ham broth is especially delicious because it’s salty and derives so much flavor from the bone. If you aren’t going to eat the broth right away, freeze in ice cube trays so it can easily help any sauce.
