Wedding Gift Registry Ideas

There is where I draw the line. I personally strive for giving a gift that is thoughtful, and the couple will still remember who gave them the gift at their 35th wedding anniversary. Here are a few of my favorites.

Weddings are such a fun, exciting and hopeful occasion – as are the showers, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and the myriads of family get togethers held in honor of the couple. After the first 3 showers, most of the gift registration has been covered and you find yourself left with miscellaneous spoons and a setting or two of the nice china from which to choose. There is where I draw the line. I personally strive for giving a gift that is thoughtful, and the couple will still remember who gave them the gift at their 35th wedding anniversary.

This brings me to stocking a kitchen.  In addition to all of the fun, happy memories surrounding weddings, they are also the one time in your life in which you can fully stock your kitchen. (You gotta love wedding gift registries.) You get every brand new, shiny, expensive, and gadget-y kitchen item that you’ve ever dreamt of. It is only when you are registering that you have grand ideas of making homemade Belgian waffles for breakfast every morning (even school mornings), or when you decide that the garlic peeler that will make sure your fingers never smell like garlic (which really is it a bad thing?) is a must have for your kitchen.

I love to give something from the kitchen with a recipe attached. Here are a few of my favorites.

Best Wedding Gifts

A Foley Food Mill (commonly referred to as a ricer): A Foley Food Mill is amazing for homemade gnocchi and amazing garlic mashed potatoes.

A Pizzelle Machine: When I was little, my Aunt Cathy gave me a pizzelle machine, and being the good Italian girl I am, I made pizzelle until each one of my finger prints were callused. Pizzelle are flat crispy cookies commonly flavored with anise but our family recipe uses orange zest. Pizzelle are great in classic form, but roll them up and you have beautiful trumpets perfect as an ice cream cone or shell for a fresh tomato and peach salad.

A KitchenAid Stand Mixer:  When I thought of my wedding, I thought dress, flowers, and a KitchenAid Stand Mixer.  In that order.  If money isn’t an object, you can be the hero and give the bride and groom a KitchenAid Stand Mixer. This piece of equipment will last for a VERY long time and as a result, you (the gift giver) will unknowingly receive credit for the homemade bread, icings, marshmallows (among many other items) that the happy couple will make using the Stand Mixer for years to come. This is true – my husband’s grandparents have received more credit these past few years, thanks to the Stand Mixer they bought us.

And that concludes my top 3 wedding gift ideas. The next time you find yourself wanting to give a gift that may not be on the gift registry, I highly recommend you consult this list.
