Pickles and Ice Cream
If you’ve been cruising through life and chosen to define your culinary skills as one who is “Master of the Grill”, but not so much “King of the Kitchen”, or you have just a few “specialties” in which you own the kitchen, you may find yourself at a complete standstill when dinner depends upon you…every night.
This is for all of you soon to be dads out there (and mommies to be too).
If you’ve been cruising through life and chosen to define your culinary skills as one who is “Master of the Grill”, but not so much “King of the Kitchen”, or you have just a few “specialties” in which you own the kitchen, you may find yourself at a complete standstill when dinner depends upon you…every night.
Thus finds a friend of ours in this situation. His wife is expecting and he has waved the white flag. While he has mastered the art of the take out order, and rotates between 3 dishes in the kitchen, that’s not quite going to get him through the rest of the pregnancy. He asks, “I know you guys help out the moms out there but can you help a father-to-be out by suggesting some easy recipes to make?” You have come to the right spot. Thank you for putting your trust in us.
Pickles and Ice Cream Substitute
First the classic “honey can you get me some pickles and ice cream” cravings request. When the pickle jar is filled with nothing but juice and you’ve scraped every last drop out of the ice cream container, you know that you need a sweet and salty substitute. Might we suggest this sweet, salty, and even a little spicy Chicken and Waffle Sandwich? For those of you who live in and around Cincinnati, and can get your hands on them, try this sandwich with Taste of Belgium’s waffles – there are pockets of sugar making this a perfect cravings fix. If that’s not an option, waffles found in the freezer section of your local supermarket will work just as well. The smoky chipotle peppers give this the perfect little kick. And, to top it all off, we even have a video for you to watch to be sure that you perfect this sandwich on the very first try. This is super easy and sure to be a show stopper my friend.
Soup
While we know that it is hotter than the surface of the sun (or so it feels), we’ve talked it over and we still suggest soup. There’s just something comforting about a warm bowl of soup that will surely help your wife to relax. We definitely have some easy choices from which to choose. To start, try this Bride Soup (again, we have an online video – your own personal cooking class). This is super easy and requires only minimal ingredients. We also love Caitlin’s Corn Soup (this is one of my favorites). Both will smell great and will make for great leftovers.
Ice Cream
This isn’t your average ice cream. Here is where you can really round out a meal and satisfy those cravings, while showing off a bit. Instead of serving a simple bowl of ice cream for dessert, jazz it up a bit and make it special (don’t worry, still easy) with these Raspberry Bellinis. The brilliant red fruits sneak in a little “nutrition” to this dessert. Serve the ice cream combination in a martini glass or cocktail glass for a little punch. Note, again we have another video for you. You can’t go wrong! And finally, a Caramel Cream Float. In just 3 ingredients, you’ll surely take your wife back to her own childhood with this fun twist on a float.
There you have it my friend. Thank you for reaching out to us and we hope that these recipes are of help to you. CONGRATULATIONS to you both!
