55KRC – Sparkpeople

This past week on 55KRC (What’s Hot with Molly, Kelly and Caitlin), we had the pleasure of hosting Sparkpeople COO Dave Heilmann and Editor and Content Manager, Nicole Nichols. I am happy to report that this is the second time that we have had the opportunity to talk with the people who make Sparkpeople.com spark(le).

This past week on 55KRC (What’s Hot with Molly, Kelly and Caitlin), we had the pleasure of hosting Sparkpeople COO Dave Heilmann and Editor and Content Manager, Nicole Nichols. I am happy to report that this is the second time that we have had the opportunity to talk with the people who make Sparkpeople.com spark(le).  (Thank you for indulging me.) As the person who is most interested in the back-end side of building a web-based business (that’s me), it was like meeting the President or the Pope. I’ll admit that I was a little star-struck.

Much like Rome wasn’t built in a day, Sparkpeople.com is now 10 years old. That’s old in web-speak.  With millions of members and millions of pageviews, these guys have it going on.  The way that they describe their offices made me think of the Google offices (we have the distinct pleasure to meet some of the fine folks there while last in NYC). With ping pong tables, pranks and contests, they seem like your favorite (and brilliant) cousins who live off on some cool part of the country that you’ve always wanted to live.  I was trying to soak it all in.

Of course Dave and Nicole came prepared with all sorts of health-promoting tips and especially for those of us who are traveling this summer.  Pack your gym shoes, walk instead of taking the people-movers, pack snacks to avoid making bad food choices, are among a few. And they dished on the benefits of becoming a (free) member on Sparkpeople.com.
