Gourmet Burger Recipe

For Caitlin, a great gourmet burger recipe is the right combination of many things – the ingredients (of course), having some sort of crunch by way of topping, the type of burger meat selected, the right bun, and properly grilling your burger.

If you are looking for a fantastic gourmet burger recipe, you have come to the right place.  Caitlin has become known in Cincinnati for having one of the best burgers around, due to The Market on Fountain Square. For Caitlin, a great gourmet burger recipe is the right combination of many things – the ingredients (of course), having some sort of crunch by way of topping, the type of burger meat selected, the right bun, and properly grilling your burger.

Recipe Ingredients

Starting with the ingredients, Caitlin’s creative mind often times combines ingredients that any one of us would normally serve together anyway, but maybe just not on a bun. That’s one of the best tips we can give. For example – the Mexican Burger. This delicious beef burger includes pico de gallo as well as avocado cream cheese – think salsa and guacamole – just in a new way.

Burger Toppings

Additionally, we don’t just put toppings on top of the burger, sometimes we place them underneath – think about where/when should you taste certain flavors, and when to hit that crunch in your sandwich. Here’s a link to all sorts of gourmet burger recipes.

Stay Away from the Patty.

Try to avoid the flat, pancake like burger when you think gourmet burgers – stay away from the patties. Think about what you can do to your burger sandwich to dress it up.  Often times the meat is stuffed, sometimes with cheese, sometimes with other meats. Surprise the mouth.  Think about what you can toss your meat in, before forming into a burger. Our burgers are often tossed with other delicious ingredients such as pesto, ricotta, bbq sauce, and definitely salt and pepper.

Burger Meat

People often hear the term burger and immediately think beef.  We challenge you to think outside of beef. Often times, our burger meat is ground pork. Ground pork is easily found at just about any grocery store. We use pork as it carries the flavor even better than beef – so for a gourmet burger creation, that works out well.

Burger Bun Recipe

The buns you select for your burger should be carefully considered. To round out our gourmet burgers, most often we use butter rolls (as in the dinner roll) from Servatii. If you are not in the Cincinnati area, you can probably easily find dinner rolls at your grocery.  We love these rolls as they really enhance the flavor, are the perfect size and perfect consistency.

Grill

Once you’ve combined your ingredients and formed your burgers (we like 4 oz. burgers), it’s off to the grill you go. You want to make sure you have a nice heat going to sear the meat and lock in the juices. Don’t press on your burger with your spatula as it will release some of those juices that make it so darn good.
