Not too long ago, Kelly and I (Molly) were fortunate enough to attend The Midwest Culinary Institute’s event, One Night, Twelve Kitchens. This truly is a must-do event in Cincinnati.
As seen in the opening narrative, Kelly was all lathered up to get to be in the room with so many talented chefs (note: I was too). Just watch, she can barely contain herself.

Standing behind her is Chef Jean-Robert de Cavel (who has been just so good to us and we adore). He is oh-so popular and his line was quite long – so long in fact that Kelly had time to make a quick dash to another station to get something for us to nibble on as we waited. But, let me tell you, it was worth EVERY second of the wait to get to actually see Chef Jean-Robert in the flesh putting together the delicious food.
Then, we were off to Cumin where we learned all about the 7-hour chicken wing. Yes, that’s right, a 7-hour chicken wing. We caught the whole description on tape. And, what’s really exciting about it is, this past weekend, we had Executive Chef Owen Maass of Cumin on our radio show (What’s Hot with Molly, Kelly and Caitlin). He told us in great detail about his love affair with the people who supply Cumin’s chicken. The best, says Owen. Stay tuned, we caught that on tape too and will be adding it to the site soon.
Finally, we were off to Rue Domaine’s station. Here, the chef explained everything from the wild salmon to caviar to crème fresh…herbs…capers…shallots…oh man, need we say more?
As far as culinary arts schools go, Cincinnati State Technical College and the Midwest Culinary Institute really knocked this event out of the park.
