Happy Mother’s Day

Just a couple hours ago I was awakened by a series of sloppy smooches from Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Hannah Montana.

I write to you from bed where I am toasty warm, and plain ol’ tickled by the sounds of my man and our three little girls in the kitchen creating a surprise breakfast for me.

Just a couple hours ago I was awakened by a series of sloppy smooches from Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Hannah Montana.  They marched into my room with a rousing cheer of “Happy Mother’s Day!” and arms full of original artwork and a carefully wrapped and copiously taped package.

With all three of my girlies in my lap, and Husband of the Year by our sides, we tore into the giftwrap and unveiled “What’s Cooking In Kindergarten?” by Mrs. Davis’ Kindergarten Class, my newest favorite cookbook.  As you may have guessed, it is a collection of answers to the question, “What is your Mother’s favorite food, and how is it prepared?”

Smack dab in the middle of the assemblage sits Blu Trush’s contribution:

Grilled Cheese

Ingredients:

Bread—2 pieces
Butter spray (that makes it crunchy)—spray the bread 5 times
Cheese—2 pieces on each piece of bread

Recipe:

First you put the bread on a tray.  Then you spray the butter spray on five times on each piece of bread.  Then you put the cheese on both of the sides of bread.  Then you put it in the pan.  You have to let it cook for 10 hours probably.  Get each piece out of the pan.  Put one piece on top of the other piece.  Then you cut it in half.  That’s what we like to do.  Then you put it on a plate.  Then you put it on the dinner table or a bar.  And then you can eat it.

Brilliant.  My heart sings.  Thank you, Blu, for making me a Mom first (and Quincy and Darby for doing it again and again).  And thank you, Mrs. Davis, for mothering my little kindergartner every darn day.  Thank you, Mom MacEachen, for showing me how to be the best Mom ever.  And thank you, Aunt Megan, Aunt Caitlin, and (Special Aunt) Molly, for holding my hand through the Mom craziness.  It is my great great fortune to be a Mom.  Thank you.
