Cajun Pizza

Cajun Pizza

for people who like their food hot!

Someone once asked me to come up with a spicy pizza that was really easy to make. Hence, my Cajun Pizza. This Cajun Pizza is a great one to add to your regular pizza repertoire, if you ask me. It is amazingly flavorful and a nice surprise. If you like spicy food also try my Cajun Sausage and Onion Bites.

I like to serve this with a hearty salad to complete the meal.

cooking information

  • Yield: 8 slices – 1 Pizza
  • Prep Time: 25 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 15 minutes

all ingredients

  • 1 Pizza Dough
  • 3/4 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 6 Okra
  • 2 Links Andouille Sausage
  • 8 Roasted Red Pepper Pieces, torn
  • 1 Tablespoon Cajun Seasonings
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 1/2 Cups Shredded Pepper Jack Cheese
  • 1 Head Turnip Greens

recipe instruction

1. Start with the okra and slice the tops and bottoms off of the okra. Then slice into ¼ inch thick slices. Next, slice the sausages into ¼ inch thick slices. Tear the roasted red peppers with your hands into smaller pieces. Chop the turnip greens into thin strands and set aside.

2. Place the dough on a cookie sheet and prepare to assemble. First, drizzle approximately 2 tablespoons of olive oil on the bare dough. Sprinkle a tablespoon of Cajun spices onto the dough. Next, with your hands, rub the oil and spices into the dough (be sure not to touch your eyes!).

3. Layer okra around the middle of the dough, leaving 1- 2 inches for the crust. Next, layer the Andioulle sausage. If you can’t find the Andouille sausage, chorizo is a great option, or just hot smoked sausage. Sprinkle the red peppers on top of the sausage.

4. To create the crust, fold an inch of the outer dough inward and continue around the entire pizza. This will create a crust and a barrier to keep the cream inside. (If you have ever folded a pie, it is a similar technique.)

5. Once the crust is created, pour the cream over the toppings. Then, cover everything with the shredded pepper jack cheese (use as much or as little as you like).

6. Place the pizza in a 400 degree oven for about 10 minutes. After ten minutes check every 5 minutes from then on out. You want the crust to be brown, the cheese to bubble, and the bottom to not stick to the pan. Once the pizza has fulfilled all of the requirements, it is ready to be taken out.

7. When the pizza is cooling down, top with the shredded turnip greens. Let set for a couple minutes before you cut and serve. A crowd pleaser for sure!
