  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cooking Time: 10 minutes

all ingredients

  • 8 Slices Thick-Sliced Bacon
  • 2 Red Delicious Apples
  • 1 Stick Unsalted Butter
  • 5 Sprigs Fresh Thyme
  • Toothpicks

recipe instruction

1. Preheat your oven for 450 Degrees.

2. Prepare your ingredients; slice your bacon in half, and if you have an apple slicer, cut each apple into 8 equal slices (core removed).

3. Take a slice of apple and wrap it with a slice of bacon, place a toothpick in the appropriate place to ensure the bacon doesn’t fall off.

4. Place your assembled apple slices on a cookie sheet. Once all of them are completed put your cookie sheet in the 450 degree oven and let cook 10 minutes or until the bacon is becoming brown and crispy. (You can either cook them completely and them serve them right out of the oven or you can precook them and then crisp them up on the grill while the party is happening.) Once they are taken out of the oven though drain any extra grease.

5. For the sauce, add your one stick of butter and fresh thyme to a sauté pan and turn to medium low heat. It is finished cooking when the thyme is perfuming the kitchen and you butter is brown and nutty in flavor. Remove the whole sprigs of thyme before using.

6. Before serving drizzle the crispy apple slices with your brown butter. Serve and enjoy.

cooking tips

  • The brown butter sauce it just an option as a topper for the apples. The apples are great all on their own, however if you do make the brown butter sauce it is great tossed with freshly cooked pasta or rroasted vegetables.
  • You can use any apple you have at your house or love eating. I chose the red delicious because they are sweeter in flavor (to contrast the saltiness of the bacon) and have a beautiful red skin.
  • Make sure that once your apples are sliced that you wrap them right away and bake them. If you leave them out too long they will oxidize and turn brown, creating a not as pretty finished product.
